ABSTRACT

Designers, owners, engineers and architects need to be aware of conflicts between costs, occupant productivity and life cycle costs. Savings in the building phase don't always work out to be savings - there can be severe building problems and deaths have been reported due to Legionnaire's disease. Owners and designers need to be aware of foreseeable litigation issues by understanding constantly changing 'rules' to buildings. Discusses several factors that demonstrate why thermal comfort is important to productivity and has supporting documentation. Demand Controlled Ventilation is explained, and the article finishes up with concerns for different parties involved in the building process from architects to occupants.
