ENERGY STAR® for Buildings & Manufacturing Plants
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), energy use in commercial buildings and
manufacturing plants accounts for nearly half of all energy consumption in the U.S. at a cost of over $200 billion per
year; more than any other sector of the economy. Commercial and industrial facilities are also responsible for nearly
half of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change.
EPA studies of human exposure to air pollutants indicate that indoor levels of
pollutants may be 2-5 times, and occasionally more than 100 times, higher than outdoor levels. These levels of indoor
air pollutants are of particular concern because it is estimated that most people spend about 90% of their time
indoors. Comparative risk studies performed by EPA and its Science Advisory Board have consistently ranked indoor
air pollution among the top four environmental risks to the public.
An ENERGY STAR certified building meets strict energy performance standards set by EPA, uses less energy, is
less expensive to operate, and causes fewer greenhouse gas emissions than its peers. To qualify for the ENERGY
STAR, a building or manufacturing plant must earn a 75 or higher on EPA's 1-100 energy performance scale,
indicating that the facility performs better than at least 75% of similar buildings nationwide. The ENERGY STAR energy performance scale accounts for differences in operating conditions, regional weather data, and other important considerations.
Employ Ebtron Air Flow Measurement instruments as a key component of your ENERGY STAR strategy to reduce
equipment first cost, reduce energy use and improve occupant comfort. Contact your local Ebtron Sales
Representative or our Application Engineering team for information on how we can help you earn the ENERGY STAR
on your next project.
